UP Student Nurses Association (UPSNA)

As a chapter of the Oregon Student Nurses Association, UPSNA is a pre-professional organization comprised of future nurse professionals committed to furthering the nursing profession. Members of UPSNA enjoy the benefits of enriching the UP learning community through professional development, social advocacy, and community service. While UPSNA is a nursing student organization, its greater goal is to promote health and wellness to the whole student body and the greater community.

UPSNA Board Positions

President

The President serves as the official representative of UPSNA and association members, and ensures the smooth operation of all UPSNA activities. Working in conjunction with the Board, the President establishes organizational goals and oversees and evaluates progress toward these goals. The President must be a junior, senior, or graduate student. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Organizing meetings and establishing agendas
  • Running Board meetings
  • Delegating and assigning tasks to board members
  • Ensuring compliance with state and national chapter standards
  • Volunteering during activities and events
Vice President

The Vice President assists the President in forming and carrying out goals set forth by the Board and acts as the head of the organization in the President's absence. The Vice President also serves as the primary liaison and contact person between UPSNA and any outside organizations. The Vice President must be a junior, senior, or graduate student. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Running general assembly meetings
  • Delegating and assigning tasks to board members
  • Maintaining all the UPSNA Facebook account by uploading current photos, responding to friend requests, making sure the content is current and reflects the mission of UPSNA, and making general announcements
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Treasurer

The Treasurer acts as financial officer and oversees the financial records of the organization. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Creating event budgets to request fund allocations
  • Managing reimbursements
  • Handling deposits to the UPSNA account
  • Awarding grant money
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for maintaining the historical records for UPSNA and communicating important information to association members. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Keeping and distributing minutes for each meeting
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Membership Director

The Membership Director maintains membership records and communicates membership information with prospective and current members. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Maintaining current membership database
  • Processing new applications (including entering new members into the current database and sending membership confirmation emails)
  • Contacting members when membership expires
  • Answering questions and inquiries about membership
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
  • Getting in touch with the School of Nursing office to have emails sent to the entire nursing student body
  • Running the UPSNA email account (responding to emails and advertising upcoming event to members)
Activities Coordinator

The Activities Coordinator is responsible for overseeing UPSNA activities and Coordinating necessary resources and activities. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Brainstorming activity ideas
  • Organizing and accessing any resource needed
  • Evaluating the activities and making suggestions for improvements
  • Forwarding information about upcoming events to the Vice President (so the information can be posted on the UPSNA Facebook page)
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Teaching and Learning, Committee, Student Representative

The Teaching and Learning Committee Representative acts as a liaison between UPSNA, the general student body, and the Teaching and Learning Committee. The Teaching and Learning Committee develops, recommends, and administers regulations and procedures related ti students and nursing school community. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Attending all Teaching and Learning Committee meetings
  • Representing student perspectives and interests during meetings
  • Reporting committee develops to the UPSNA Board
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Curriculum Committee Student Representative

The Curriculum Committee Student Representative acts as a liaison between UPSNA, the general student body, and the Curriculum Committee. The Curriculum Committee is responsible for providing leadership and monitoring, coordinating and structuring the program of study in the School of Nursing. The committee monitors content and structure of curriculum, the sequence of the program of study, and the courses taught. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Attending all UPSNA meetings
  • Attending all Curriculum Committee meetings
  • Representing student perspectives and interests during meetings
  • Reporting committee developments to the UPSNA Board
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering
Student Liaison

The Student Liaison acts as a representative for the general student body and works to bridge the communication between students and the School of Nursing. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Making UPSNA announcements in class
  • Discussing UPSNA events with peers
  • Providing the Board feedback from general association members
  • Assisting in event planning, coordinating, and volunteering

Who can join UPSNA?

Membership is open to any UP nursing student (undergraduate or graduate) interested in connecting with fellow nursing students and making a difference in our community.

What is the time commitment?
Once a member of UPSNA, you determine your level of involvement and participation. Each year, UPSNA plans many social, academic, and volunteer activities. Although attendance at events is not required for general association members, we encourage you to become involved and experience the most out of your nursing school career!

General association meetings are held once a month and provide all members an opportunity to stay informed on current events within UPSNA and the school of nursing. Information regarding the date, time and location of meetings can be found on the 3rd floor of the Buckley Center on the UPSNA bulletin board and on the [Schedule].

How do I join UPSNA?
Membership is open throughout the year. Applications are available on the 3rd floor of the Buckley Center next to the UPSNA bulletin board or online (UPSNA Membership ). The cost of membership is $50 for two years or $30 for one year.

UPSNA Grants: UPSNA offers grants of $50-200 to fund student-initiated projects that seek to further the mission of UPSNA. Grants may be used to subsidize philanthropic/advocacy work or professional development endeavors.
