Barb Braband, RN, EdD, CNE, currently serves as the program director of the nurse educator and clinical nurse leader master’s programs in the School of Nursing. As a longstanding certified nurse educator in both undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, Dr. Braband's primary nursing and teaching specialties include nursing education, community and population health.
Her educational background includes a bachelors' degree in nursing, a master’s of arts (MA) degree in agency counseling, a master’s of science in nursing (MSN) degree in nursing education, and a doctoral degree in healthcare professions education (Ed D). Scholarship topics include nursing education, community-academic partnerships, and caring topics including suffering and childhood grief. Her scholarly work has been presented in professional publications, national and international conferences including a presentation at the 2016 Sigma Theta Tau Research Congress in Cape Town, South Africa.
Dr. Braband was awarded tenure in January 2016. She currently serves in leadership positions at the University of Portland (IRB committee and Academic Senate), in the Association of Community Health Nurse Educators (Board Research Chairperson), and the Western Institute of Nursing (committee member). Dr. Braband’s professional nursing service in the North Portland community and the Faith Community Nursing regional board has embodied the UP mission of faith and service with nursing students and faculty colleagues. In Fall 2016, she will co-teach an interdisciplinary course, Theological Dimensions of Suffering and Death, with a theology faculty member.
