More about the ONCF program

BSN level nurse Fellow:

  • Works part time at a participating health care organization as a University of Portland student employee for a three-year period
  • Relocates for the three-year period to a rural Oregon location if living 50-miles from the health care organization
    • Fellow receives one-time $15,000 relocation stipend 
  • Earns a no cost Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at a distance:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner (DNP-FNP), or
    • Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (DNP-AGPCNP)
  • Participates as an active student in the University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations (SONHI) Doctor of Nursing Practice at a level commensurate DNP-FNP or DNP-AGPCNP program rigor
    • Classes are offered in a hybrid format with online and monthly weekend on-campus immersion classes

Health care organization employer agrees to:

  • pay the University of Portland $80,000 annually over three years, a total of $240,000 and pay an additional relocation stipend of $15,000 if Fellow lives over 50 miles from the health care organization
  • utilize a BSN level ONCF participant as a part-time nurse during the same three-year period (Fellow is UPSONHI student employee)
  • partner with University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations to provide the ONCF participant with appropriate clinical experience to ensure the completion of a DNP program over the same three-year period
  • schedule the ONCF participant in a way that allows the participant to successfully pursue the DNP degree from UP School of Nursing & Health Innovations in a hybrid distance learning program over the same three-year period 

University of Portland School of Nursing & Health Innovations agrees to:

  • recruit health care organizations to host program participants (including managing memoranda of understanding and similar processes)
  • recruit and place program participants, and support them throughout the program
  • provide the DNP program at a distance
  • Provide assistance to program participants’ applications for undergraduate student loan deferment or forbearance
