More About the Family Nurse Practitioner Track

This program is designed for registered nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a master's degree in nursing seeking the DNP degree and preparation as a family nurse practitioner (FNP). The FNP is a health care professional who is prepared to work independently, and collaboratively with other health care professionals, diagnose and manage acute and chronic health conditions, and promote health and wellness to families and individuals of all ages.

  • The application to begin the DNP-FNP program in summer (May) 2023 is available.
  • No library, technology, application or distance learning fees.
  • Inquire about our Providence Employee tuition discount.
  • Applications for summer 2023 are open and will be accepted on a rolling basis until the following deadline:
    • April 1, 2023

The University of Portland’s DNP - Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program meets the state educational requirements for FNP licensure in Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Hawaii, Texas, Georgia, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The University of Portland has not determined whether the program meets the FNP licensure requirements for other states but can do so on a case by case basis. The University of Portland is approved by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission to conduct practice experiences in the state of Washington for the DNP-FNP program.
